Love... Hurts

It started innocuously enough. A message, a website, a click.

Then the thoughts started coming.

What if... Why do I feel this way... Am I being controlling, selfish, manipulative... Why do I feel hurt... Why does my imagination run... Why?...

Trust issues? Then it's me right, it's my fault. It's always you in the end... I guess, people don't really want to love because it's a thin line between loving someone and hating someone, and just... being hurt.

Does love have to hurt?

Love does not have to hurt but it often seems to. When you listen to the music of love you will hear it telling stories about the pain and sorrow of unfulfilled love. Someone left, someone cheated, or someone died and left someone sad and alone. Love is such a strong positive emotion that it is inevitable that there will be some pain associated with it at some time. This is Nature's law of opposites. For every force there is an equal and opposite force to hold it in balance. As much as our love would soar as a bird on the air, there is gravity to bring it back to earth…sometimes falling but usually gliding.

Passion, is a bird on wing in the thin air of the highest sky without a net. Passion is blissful delight. It's exciting, thrilling, and we feel so alive. You remember your first love and you always will while those that follow diminish in the distance and fade in the past. First love and passion unlock so many feelings that it's hard to describe them all: euphoria, peace, tenderness, tingling, jealousies, and complete connection are but a few. Passion is a sweet anesthesia that blinds us to anything that might come between us. Love, in the passion stage, holds a power for that moment that can overcome everything.

When judgment is replaced with passion, people tend to make different decisions than they otherwise would. You dated and maybe even married that person even though you sensed that there were major differences between you. You somehow thought that they weren't important or that they would change. Then you realized, when the passion wore off as it always does, that maybe things weren't as great as you thought. That realization and the following break-up were hard. It hurt. It seems as though love always hurts.

The truth, however, is that love does not hurt but it is the falling out of love or not having love that really hurts. And the higher you are, such as in the heights of passion or the tower of a long-term love, the harder the fall. A break-up, divorce, death, or abandonment are some of the most painful experiences of life because we miss our love so much.

We all need two things in life 1. To not be alone or feel alone, and 2. To be appreciated and loved for whom we are. Love brings us together and loneliness reminds us that we are missing something in life. You may not even understand it but the forces are there. We seek fulfillment in the love of others when we often need to love ourselves just as much.

"Love is the passionate and abiding desire on
the part of two or more people to produce
together conditions under which each can
be, and spontaneously express, his real self:
to produce together an intellectual soil and an
emotional climate in which each can flourish,
far superior to what either could achieve alone."

From Apples of Gold - unattributed quote

Further more...

Jealous according to Webster’s New World Dictionary means:

* Very watchful or careful in guarding or keeping.
* Resentfully suspicious of a rival or a rival’s influence

Jealousy is a fear of losing your partner to someone else.

Jealousy is one of the many emotions that we can experience in an intimate relationship.

A little jealousy can be good for a relationship. We tend to interpret this emotion as love and it can keep us from taking each other for granted.

He can be jealous if he feels his partner honors or respects another man over him. If she admires another man’s strengths instead of acknowledging that her own partner has such strengths, then that may cause him to be jealous.

She can be jealous if he spends time with coworkers, secretaries or the like including having lunch or dinner with the opposite sex. Women tend to not trust the "other woman" more than not trusting her man.

Jealousy can hurt a relationship if it becomes an obsession in which you do not trust your partner and feel that you have to watch their every move. Questioning them constantly about where they have been and who they have been with. Insinuating that they have done something wrong or have cheated. Calling them several times a day, having them carry a beeper, cell phone or the like so you can be in contact with them many times a day. Making assumptions that they are cheating can hurt the relationship.

What can you do if you are feeling jealous in a relationship?

1. Couples can admit to being jealous.

2. Sit and talk about how they feel and point out the times that they feel most vulnerable.

3. Point out to the partner what behavior you are having problems with and then negotiate a way to deal with the problem.

4. Validate your partner’s feelings. Don’t say "you shouldn’t be jealous" or "don’t’ you trust me". Accept your partner’s feelings, respect them and then try to find a way to help avoid doing things that may trigger those feelings. Everyone has a right to their own feelings. They are not wrong for feeling a certain way and most of us just want validation and understanding for having those feelings. We all want to be understood and accepted.

5. If you really love and respect your partner then you will make adjustments to your behaviors that may be contributing to causing your partner to feel jealous. For example: If you always flirt with the waitress when you are out together for a meal or drink and your partner feels uncomfortable with you doing this, then don't try to justify it by saying "I'm a big flirt, or you know I like to flirt". Instead be aware of your behavior and make adjustments so your partner won't feel uncomfortable.

We suggest you come up with a code word that only the two of you know about and when one of you is doing something that makes the other one feel uncomfortable or jealous then just say the code word so your partner can take action and refrain from that behavior. this "code word" will save a lot of arguing and problems if it is used and responded to immediately. You can later discuss what has happened in the privacy of your own home where no one else can hear your discussion

Which explains why mothers can't get along with daughters in law. I have grown apart from a few close friends. Mainly because of bf issues. Others, well, I've just been lazy to keep in touch.

I think I'll wait for the sunrise. The sky is turning blue out there.

There's something about the late night syndrome that gets people in the mood for deep thoughts.

10 things I want to say to people but I never will

Blog surfing: Saw Yuan's blog. ditto.

List ten things you want to say to 10 people but know you never will.
1. Don't say who the people are.
2. Feel free to comment, but I'm not confirming or answering anything.
3. Never discuss it again.
4. Tag 5 people to do the same...

All right.. this will be fun. (In no particular order):

1) I love you. Study harder. Life is a journey, and you've just begun.
2) I love you. Stay healthy. I'm sorry we quarreled, I'm sorry for every nasty thing I've ever done. I'm sorry for being a terror 7 years ago, and am still a terror now.
3) I love you. Don't work so much. Sometimes, we need you more than you think.
4) I love you. Study harder.
5) (Omitted)
6) I've told you who I am, and I've opened myself to you. You should be secure now, but we are still young, and there is a long journey ahead. I'm afraid, and rightly you should be. Will love grow among scarred bushes? Or do we have to clear the fields with fire before new growth can take place? Maybe, we'll walk in fields of gold.
7) You were my greatest inspiration. You helped me realised my flaws, and provided a role model to a lot of people. You have gone through a lot in life, and I will pray for you. Yes I still believe, but I do no believe in an institution that is the Christian church. Take care my friend, even though now, we are merely hi-bye friends.
8) Growing up with you has opened my eyes to your growth. Sometimes, I disapprove of your actions, and I frown upon your friends, but we are still buddies, and for that, it transcends everything. I wish that life could be better for you, but I trust that you have it in you to succeed. Morality is relative, you said, I believe that morality can be absolute, but it will relax when we grow up.
9) I wish we could talk like we used to, before the guy in pyjamas happened. I miss talking to you, and I miss having a friend like you, flitty, flirtatious, a social butterfly. Things have changed, I hope they never, but we can't stop change.
10) I wish you would shut the fuck up sometimes. You are a fun guy, but I can't stand living in a cacophony of noise.

Tag: ermmm, I don't know who reads this blog. So, just tag everyone who does.:)

N.B. The title is "List ten things you want to say to 10 people but know you never will". There are some people I would say stuff to, but these are just the words I will never say, or rather, my LHS.

Gays in Singapore

A chronicle of a gay couple in Singapore.

I'd say there are very brave, considering that Singapore is still a homophobic country.

My personal stand? I'll be your friend, as long as you don't hit on me. After all, you will probably be better than me in singing, dancing, music or art. And I respect you for that.

EDIT: THIS IS AWESOME.

Mr. Singapore... Haha.. Let's vote for Mr. Punggol, or even Mr. Marine Parade... OMG.
Full link here.

EDIT:

I find it offensive that some of the comments on Colin and Kero's site are totally flaming and showing that these people are not open minded and are bigots. Sample comments such as this:

I know the more people say they disagree 2 of you's relationship the more you all will be together.
However, i just want to tell you 2 about this God who loves you and died for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSZ9SPz9hrA,
I urge you to watch this video or i beg you to watch this video please. That is the Guy who died for you and me so that we can be cleansed again.

I believe God's love can set people free. Free from homosexuality. you may think that it's alright to be together. but i pray and hope that you find this everlasting neverending love and your true purpose of living. You are in my prayers. God bless you.

you just think its real cute and all that. YOU F'ers you cant get youself girls la! calling your dad a F'er. he's normal unlike you , GAYS!

Fuck you all. Gays have as much a right to live in this world as us "normal" human beings. Just showing your intolerance reflects on how bigoted you are. Homosexuality is NOT a fucking sin. I have gay friends, I (don't know about lesbians), but I do not judge people based on their sexual preferences. (That is, until they start touching me and want to start a gay relationship. Sorry, I'm not interested. I am 100% straight).

Homophobia. Sigh. I think I used to suffer from it as well, but talking about it, and having friends who you are close to and are gays/lesbians just makes the entire issue closer to heart. Basically, if you are gay, go be gay with other gays. Don't think every single gay will hit on you, because frankly, you're not that hot. And if you aren't interesting, just say "I'M NOT INTERESTED". Don't condemn 10% of our population to hell.

This is more a rant against Christianity than anything.

Say Anything

this is a "say anything" post.

POST ANYTHING that you want (in comments)and post it ANONYMOUSLY. Anything. Confess, tell a secret, gossip, admit your love, reveal your obsessions, tell someone something you've never said before, say a regret, say a fear, spill your worries, your thoughts, your jealousy, insult, compliment, rant, joke, lie.. anything! Be sure to post anonymously and honestly. Post as many times as you'd like. Then, put this in your blog to see what your friends (and perhaps others who you don't even realize read your blog) have to say.

Post anonymously, I want to hear what you have to say...

Leftover

My ex-band is doing pretty well! They have gigs, a website, and EP coming out.. It's a huge dream come true for Ben, Scott, Kuek, Job and Rob... It's kinda sad to be away from such a huge moment, but then, I'm out of the band, and I wish them all the best in their future successes...

Jon and Kuek have song writing flair, and Ben is just this weird little kid who can play guitar fucking well:)... Scott, well, he's crazy back in the old Hwa Chong days when he was part of Last Minute, and I was still in P.O.S.T.

I wish them all the best. Check them out.

I can't explain my feelings for you
it's just too much to say,
but all I do is think of you day after day...

You don't understand how much I wish
that you could be just mine,
and maybe it will happen
it might just take some time...

I don't know how or why
my feelings are so very strong
but I do know that
in my arms is where you belong...

I know I've only known you
for just a little while
but ever since I met you,
I can only think of your beautiful smile...

I wish you would look me in my eyes
and say you want me, too
but until then- I just want you to know
I will wait for you

More Comments!

Boo hoo... The Chicago Marron said this about my singing:

Ah Hock sings a tune of desperation somewhere around this time that is noteworthy only because of its overdramatic tone. Random ballet dancers and blue fog compensate for the sub-par singing.

Sub-par singing, I must have tortured a lot of people out there... Looks like I've proven all my close friends right again, yes Shar, I can't sing for nuts. I shall not try ever again:)...

Beauty World - The Middle

Found a few interesting sites today about Beauty World.

1) The Screwy Skeptic watched Beauty World last night. Read her review here!

2) Another blogger who is probably a senior comes to Beauty World. If you can't find the link, search for "Beauty World" in the search. EDIT: It's Qiuwei.. haha. She didn't come in the end

3) Another girl who is Singaporean and speaks Spanish (i presume) who came to Beauty World. Read about it here EDIT: She's a he. Sorry about that.

4) The Maroon did an article on us... Read about it here. It's just a small advertisement.

I'm tired.. I shall just sleep now.. And I didn't get Cape Town study abroad program. Well, there are good and bad consequences, but I am safe to say that the good does outweigh the bad.. Now I can be in Chicago for Winter next year... =) Pretty awesome if you ask me...

P.S. Help me do my johari window here.

Beauty World - The Beginning

And so it ends. With on-stage romance, off-stage romance, heartbreak, lots of cheese, partying, a drunkard, amnesia, and Dick. (no pun intended)

So the day started with rehearsals, a missed work session, and lots of problems overall. It ended, well on a high. Characters came through, loads of people fell in love with me!!! haha.. Oh well, I imagined the last part, but awww... I was the cockster who cared so much about my hair, who sang, and everyone laughed.

WHYYYY!!!??? IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE TOUCHING... Sigh... But i love Wanchoo! My favourite Shadidah Abdul Rashid! Awesome. Good job everyone. Wouldn't have been possible without the commitment and dedication for all cast members, and director, Andy Tan, crew etc etc. It was a successful team effort!

After party - well. Amnesia happened. Next morning I was on a couch in Weixiong's apartment. Thank my lucky stars.

And today was Dick Lee's Symposium. Lots of thoughts on identity, composition, song writing etc etc... It was about how Singapore has lost its identity in the early 1980s, and we were trying to copy people, be an Asian Michael Jackson, asian Elton John. I think I shall restart my song writing.. Inspirational, really.

On a final note: Here's the programme that Dick signed. Thanks.

My life is now complete. I'll just have to wait for someone...

P.S. Shucks.. I got tomorrowed... Unexpected, but thanks for the support!

P.P.S. Yong Chun, who plays Towkay Neo (not too sleazy though) has pictures up here.

Dress Rehearsal

Went bad.

Problems were plentiful. Light cues were not met, there were changes in the script, tables that were in front were now behind, sound problems...

Well, now that we know all the problems.. we'll just have to clean it up for tomorrow's act.

On my part:

1) forgot some lines in my music. Will have to remember, internalise.

2) Shit ass line about IVY bringing Towkay Tan to the Paradise hotel. Gah.

3) Have to remember my character. And the massive TRAFFIC JAM that occurs all the time at the bar...

4) Messy messy messy. Will have to clean up. Ivy's scene was too rushed. Will have to slow it down, feel them emotions.

Everyone has put in too much effort. let's go...

P.S. Wish you were here =) But I know I have your support... Have fun during exploration!

Beauty World III

The set just came in today... Hooray!!! Had a couple of Techs, some lighting, and it was over for the day. Very very ma fan, and also very very inefficient, half the time was spent standing around.

Oh well. Some people actually said I sound good on the mic. TAKE THAT!!!! I know my voice sucks:), well, one day one day... Must be able to live up to my uncle's name... He was 1990 talentime champion okay... haha

And the Ugly Butterfly... Wincy ahhh.. Something happened to it... :) We'll try to solve it though haha.. Looks like a wake now...

Am I scarred for life?

Maybe. Will there ever be someone for me? Who can take my pile of shit that I constant fling into oblivion? My mum tried. She left for New York after 15 years. My dad tried. He trusts me to take care of myself now. I tried.

Sometimes, I think love is selfish. You constantly want someone to be by your side, to be with you, to be able to be there. You want attention, you want someone who cares. And you want someone who understands.

Can anyone ever understand? Or do we just float around as individuals? Maybe reliance on oneself would be the ideal form of existence, like Rosseau's natural man before society came into existence. Then you are answerable to yourself.

Sometimes, it hurts. I'm reminded why I'm here in the USA again. I'm here to start anew, to leave my life back in Singapore. Why am I still cynical? Maybe it's a music thing. Oh well... I hate it when you're disappointed in me...

Though my body's broken
And my spirit is weak
My soul is awoken
As I hear someone speak
Please come back my lover
Now your future lies here
Please come back to Tir n'a Noir

-Tir n'a Noir by Emi Fujita

Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley?

I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in fields of gold

-Fields of Gold by Emi Fujita

Singapore to Host F1?

Interesting, Singapore has thrown its bid into the hat to host F1 races. Now, that would be an interesting piece of excitement for a city-state (Stadt-Staat) that has known little excitement since.. oh, I was born. For the for article from the BBC, look here

What could a potential street race through the streets of Singapore look like? What routes to take? What exciting turns and hair pins can we incorporate into the race? Well, me and my buddies have actually discussed this before, at Alex's place. So, maybe just a little discussion on the route.

1) Well, the highlight is the long straight necessary in any F1 race. This is best fulfiled by none other than Benjamin Sheares bridge. The scenery would also be amazing. The thing is car crashed would be over the top and into the water (literally) and it would be stunning. I would actually like the exit to be at Rochor, but the tight turns at the bottom of the slope (which I find dangerous to take at 80 kmh) would contribute to a pretty exciting lap. Furthermore, it's not exactly conducive to overtaking. A better exit would be Keppel?/Prince Edward? But this would restrict the overtaking. However, the race could continue onto Shenton way, which would be good to put Singapore on the World map.

Perhaps the esplanade can feature as the grandstand of sorts. And the route back to the ECP would be the Ford Road exit. That would make a nice circutous route, and hairpins can be added slong Shenton way. That's one idea.

2) Perhaps we can hold it along Upper Thompson, up to Seletar, and utilise the various small roads along the nature trail beside the air bases. That would an interesting drive for the drivers, but then, we won't promote our city much.

I live in the East, so naturally, my train of thought floats naturally to the routes I travel. I would love to be able to take that Sheares bridge turn at 280 mph, even though I know that certain death, and perhaps a watery grave awaits me if I fail. Morbid thoughts, but cool.
