LASIK done!
It's 4 am i Know. And frankly, I'm not tired at all. Been sleeping since I came home after the LASIK op at 2 pm. Eyesight is not 6/6 yet, but it's closer to 6/9 or at least 6/7 (if there's such a thing).
My day of operation consists of my dad proceeding down to TTSH to sign the consent form. (As i wasn't 21 years old yet). It cost a COOL $4601.05. $3560 for the actual LASIK (wavefront surgery for me at $1780 per eye) and another $1k for intralase cut instead of the conventional surgical blade to form the corneal flap. And $41.05 for eyedrops and such.
And so, the appointment being made for 11 am, i strolled around Orchard borders prior to that (i had an NSC appt at 8 am which I kept), and had 3 hours to comtemplate what I was going to put myself through. There was a possibility of losing my vision altogether, or even requiring thicker spectacles than I did before due to complications and stuff. But all these are weighed up against the possibility (95%!) of not ever wearing spectacles again.
11 am, walked into LASIK centre at TTSH. They were showing golf on TV. Waited around. Had instruction from a nurse how to use the eyedrops and some post operative care (don't use computers) lol.
Then I went into the OT at around 12.15 pm. Scared. Apprehensive. Blah blah blah. Wore a surgical gown, slippers and surgical hat. Laid down on the surgical bed, which was somewhat like the space bed from "Tintin in space", except there were huge machines over the head area.
First for lasik, they would suction your eye out of your damn socket. You'd lose vision. I wondered at that time if it would be permanant. Then, truly, I'll be in the land of the blind. So i had my eye area cleaned, placed under the Intralase machine and my right eye suctioned out. "Don't move". Right. Eyelids held open by some nifty device. And tada, I couldn't see out of right eye.
Nurse counting, half done, 40%, 70%. I was like... what the fuck am i doing sia. Then doctor said, done. Flap created. Eye pops back in. And i had vision worse then I started off with in that eye. Then the left eye.
Whee. Flaps created in both eyes. Shites. Bubbles are present. So i was ushered out of the OT for 15 mins while the bubbles dissipate. Oh I must add, eyedrops were liberally put every few minutes or so. Anasthetic or lubricant, I really don't know.
So outside the OT, looking out of the window at fluffy white clouds with 2 flaps in my corneals. Pretty scary. I couldn't see properly. my Pupils were dilated, light was blinding. Ouchie. Longest 15 minutes ever. U know, when you have flaps in your eyes, You are really scared to blink. So i blinked only when I couldn't not blink anymore. I wondered if excessive dust got in as a results. Maybe you were supposed to close your eyes all the way. Then I dunno what would be of the flaps.
15 minutes up. Back in OT. Changed to slippers. Doctor says: left eye then right eye. Sitting outside. I heard "tick tick tick", sound of the laser zapping. Asked nurse what it was, nurse says doctor calibrating laser. OKAY...
So in I went. Head under machine. Green light. Red light. White lights. Blinking red light. Doc says look at blinking red light. Righto. Eye clamp put in. Mask put to cover rest of fact except eye. Doctor uses cotton bud to smear liquid all over my corneal. Then some surgical instrument to lift the flap. "look up, look at the light". Right. When you are lifting my flap my vision dunno go wher liao. All over the place. See white light, too bright. So bright it hurts.
Ok flap lifted. Look at blinking red light. Starting. Zap zap zap. Sound sounds like ticking alarm clock, only much louder. You can hear the cells being burned, even smell it. Smells like hair when it gets too close to a candle. Look at blinking red light. Dun move.
Done. Replace flap. HEY!!! BLINKING RED LIGHT APPEARS CLEAR NOW!
Other eye similar. Done.
Doc says: Congratulations on never needing to wear contact lenses or spectacles ever again. Ya right.
Wait outside for dad to pick up. Wearing sunglasses. Everything is slightly clearer. about 200 degrees like that. But everything very bright. On the car journey home, kept tearing and closed eyes because of the light. Even under sunglasses.
Went home. Tearing. Put antibiotics. Tried to sleep. Eyes painful. Burning sensation. Left eye hurts more than right eye. Doctor says no pain. Fucker. Couldn't sleep. Took sleeping pill provided. Tried to relief pain by dabbing away tears with tissue. Still burning pain. fucker. Thought of going blind. Can't open eyes at all.
Went to sleep.
Zzzzz.

A big part of my blog is about my life.
Thus, when I haven't updated it for a long time, it means that I have NO LIFE.
What a devastating epiphany of knowledge there. But then again, if I have no life, I'll be dead.
Yup. I'm rotting nowadays, in front of the computer. And when LASIK is done tomorrow, I'll have less of a life, because I need to stay home and hope that I don't go blind.
Yay. 11 am surgery. tada.
And about the title, I didn't know what to blog about.

NDP's next tuesday. Hooray. How very Singaporean to look forward to the one event that fires up the patriot in each and everyone of us, where red flags fly and Malaysia goes to die.
Hey it rhymes.
I'm stuck in this groove that is going like "you're leaving, and you're not going to see all these people ever again, so don't meet them anyway." But I just have to see all the folks that I'm never ever going to see again. How sad. Then again, I'm just too lazy to get out of my house.
Study study study. Drink drink drink. My day again was a boring shite day of stupid primary school experiments that threatened to get your hair burnt. literally.
Bye bye Singapore. And happy birthday.

Hooray for drunk lonely people!
Yay! I finally got myself drunk. Symptons of which include jumping off boat quay railing into the stairs below (muhahaha bet my friends though i was jumping into the water) and jumping on my car and opening the door while moving.
As of now, i am still slightly high. Catch your friend neighbourhood lipjin drunk and more fun than EVER! Tickets available at 6 teq. shots any night of the week, depending on propensity for drunkedness. Come join me in my extreme escapades and daredevil stunts that COULD GET YOU KILLED!
I seriously need someone to get my life in order again. Lol. Jesus, where are you? Maybe I should name my daughter Lily Lee Lili and my son, Jesus Lee Ye Shu. Well done.
Thanks everyone! and HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEV!
Slightly iNSANE, Happily intoxicated and hopelessly lonely. Whee!

Getting really lazy
So here I am, home again on a friday night. How sad. Looks like the next phase arrived sooner than I thought it would.
Brought Grandma to the hospital for checkup again today. Doctor says she's fine. Met some interesting folks there as well, just like I did at LASIK consultation the other day.
Let's talk about LASIK first. Met this gal at LASIK who was damn cool. Well at least I find quitting your job and going abroad for a round the world trip a cool thing to do. Hehe. Never talked to her again after that.
And today, there was this feisty young lady with a prosthetic eye. And mainly old men and women who had to go there (government subsidised mah) for various eye problems.
And I starting chatting with grandma about stuff. Mainly she told me about how they used to play in the kampong, and how life was $16 for a doctor (specialist, no less) and 30c for a meal back then. Nowadays, my lunch costs $16 and my doctor's appointments cost $3k.
The wonders of Economics and inflation.

LASIK
Well, I'll be going for LASIK surgery next friday, hopefully can get parental permission and financial support. Haha. $1780 per eye, no need to waste the extra $500 on the interlase cut.
Went to TTSH yesterday morning after 2 hours of sleep, dead tired. Had to undergo battery of tests, more or less like what I gone through before during the contact lenses test at eye centre. So used to it. See red light, blue light, white light. Blur vision etc etc etc.
LASIK is safe. I think. And I hope. Hope it goes well. Oh well.
Oh, and I got my US visa. Hooray.

Bloggers.sg
I wasn't there.
Didn't see a need to be there, though Joses was apparently very very excited about it (check out http://01s70.blogspot.com for his post).
In fact, I was only near the place because I went down for Baybeats at around 11 pm. only to realise that they had already closed for the night. Nevermind. I did catch electrico the following night. My band does need a huge improvement.
Anyway, on to bloggers. So, Singapore has a HUGE blogosphere. Why, because we are Oh-so-small, our little tiny red dot of an island. This huge blogosphere stems from the fact that we are able to afford $2000 laptops and broadband, and thus spend most of our time socialising over the internet. You never read about Africa having a blogosphere. It's more like a few people blogging.
And frankly, Singaporeans have a tendency to be shy in person and a lot more "extroveted" when hidden behind a 15.4 inch wide screen LCD display. No wonder the IRC backchannel (i read, heard and saw in pictures) was so much more interesting than the auditorium itself.
So, congrats on Bloggers.sg 2005 being a success, as far as socialising goes. And of course, we all need our quick fixes on saturday nights. Be it, alcohol, drugs or just plain blogging.

LASIK, glasses and Clubbing
I went Chinablack last night with Wendy, Maria, Debi, Weng, Alan, Jesse and Yihui.
Got in without queuing (thanks be to wendy!) who knew some manager at Chinablack. (I think her name was Caroline?/C-something). Entering Chinablack with spectacles certainly has some novelty in it, because as far as I remember, I always wanted to look "okay" for clubbing. Which in my book is contact lenses. Strictly.
So it was a good day when I looked nerdy clubbing.
And promptly, when entering the darken arena, the blast hit me at full force. 185 db of full on speaker power (BMG speakers no less), and to talk, we had to scream at the top of our voice with the ear right next to your mouth. (which is a good excuse to accidentally "kiss" a girl if you "happen" to get too close).
Needless to say, Wendy, being the resourceful darling that she is (I have pai1 some ma3 pi4 here), managed to get us seats in the VIP area. Wow. And promptly, we got 2 bottles and few mixers. Sadly, it was just delivered to the wrong table. In fact, we had 2 jugs of i-forgot-wad and 1 jug of coke.
We left after 45 minutes. I actually think clubbing and loud music is DAMN sian nowadays. You can't even talk to your friends, and the social interaction consists of grinding and bumping on the dance floor with some decent looking girl you don't know. I always siam when I get some ugly girl. My stomach can't take it.
Oh, and the title. Yes. I'm going for LASIK, so no contacts for 2 weeks. Had fun. And after clubbing supper at Newton was interesting for the conversation and also the "hen" who served our oyster omelette because she was getting married on saturday. (CONGRATS stranger. Hope you read this). and 3 guys, being the gossips we are, proceeded to comment on how pretty/beautiful/ugly/fat/thin all our class girls were.
Want to know the results? Another time:) Or if you can cajole me into telling you.

Wow. Haven't Updated for 4 days
Been a long long time since i last updated:)
Good things happened last week. I met up with the Chicago people. Good, fun-loving batch. At least, the seniors were. My batch, well, haven't talked to them that much yet, but there are at least 3 maths olympiad people going, according to Serene.
Yeowch. Kenneth, Calvin and herself. So smart in Maths. I'm like. ermmm.. limit. Whatever. Maclaurin expansion. Duh. Calculas. Get away from me.
So i'm so stressed, I picked up a sec 4 maths textbook to study:)
And i have to find my airline tickets too. Apprently, Northwest Airlines has a Visa Platinum Discount, so I'll check that out. But I have to get 3 lowest ticket quotes and pick the lowest priced ticket. That SOOOO sucks.
Maybe i'll get like 1) Private jet. 2) Luxury Yacht. 3) SIA. and then IES would have to give me SIA:) lol.
And seriously, I think I may just work for IES, partially to fulfil my obligation, and also, because I think among my friends, I'm the most champion of NS and national pride liao. SO cannot break my reputation.
Not much to break anyway.
hehe

Pages of a diary
Some pages of the diary are better left in the washpaper basket. They contain memories of wonderful times with people you missed for the rest of your life. And you continue to miss these times until your love for them turns to jealousy and hatred. And ultimately, you are angry with them, because they are those who form those memories you truly treasure and you hate them because you want them to never have been in your life ever so that you could be spare the pain of reminiscence.
Fuck you all.

Wanna Come In?
Ever watched the show Wanna Come In by MTV?
These supposedly "dorky" guys who would never score on a date are given secret coaching by "Date doctors" whose ultimate goal is to get the girl to say "Wanna come in?" at the end of the date.
Well, this afternoon, I was invited to go up to a lady's house. I had a cup of coffee, had great conversation with her. Before that, we went for a spin in my car and had a great time together.
I remember the look on concern on her face when I told her my passport wasn't ready. And the concern she showed when I told her about the London bombings and my joke that it might happen in Chicago while I was there. *touch wood of course*.
And then there was the talk about my family and my cousins as well as my uncles. How I had at least 5 educators in the family (teaching at various levels from Primary School to University level) and how my uncle who is the Assistant Dean at University of Illinois would be my closest relative when I went over to the state.
That was followed by the promise that I would make a trip back to Singapore every year to catch up with her. And also how I must save money for my dad and how I shouldn't waste my life away by frittering time away on the computer.
You see, great things happen when you talk to grandma. For she knew you since you were in diapers to when you had your first girlfriend, to when you went through your pimply stage, your rebellion and angsty stage and hopefully, come back full circle back to what is most important in you life: Family.
And she urged me to hold a 21st birthday party before I leave for the U.S., since that was what my cousins and my uncles/aunts have held ever since I was in liquid form. And so, to honor her request, perhaps a small family celebration should be in order, to celebrate the coming of age, to celebrate finally joining the work force *groan*, and of course, to celebrate the fact that her grandson had finally grown into a mature and responsible adult.
And it all started with a tiny eye infection. Sometimes, things work in funny ways, when you start ferrying grandma to and fro the hospital, you get to know a little bit more about your family and your cousins, for grandma always knows what's best.
And of course, I have to pick up hainanese soon, if not she'll just keep on insisting talking to me in hainanese and hoping I'll pick up some of the words. Yeah right.
And Hainanese guys are supposedly the most "shuai" of all the dialect groups. Don't believe? Look at me:)

Female Rejection Lines
From Mr.Brown.com
Not familiar with rejection lines? Here's what we really mean. So get a hint, ok, guys? Sheesh.
10. I think of you as a brother. (You remind me of that f**king pest. And I'm not into incest either.)
9. There's a slight difference in our ages. (You are one jurassic geezer.)
8. I'm not attracted to you in 'that' way. (You are the ugliest freak I've ever laid eyes upon.)
7. My life is too complicated right now. (I don't want you spending the whole night or else you may hear phone calls from all the other guys I'm seeing.)
6. I've got a boyfriend (He's my male cat and a half gallon of Ben and Jerry's).
5. I don't date men where I work. (Actually, I wouldn't even date you if you were in the same 'solar system', much less the same building.)
4. It's not you, it's me. (It's not me, it's you.)
3. I'm concentrating on my career. (Even something as boring and unfulfilling as my job is better than dating you.)
2. I'm celibate. (I've sworn off only the men like you.)
1. Let's be friends. (I want you to stay around so I can tell you in excruciating detail about all the other men I meet and have fun with. It's that male perspective thing)
I get a lot of the Let's Be Friends crap. Time to turn gay.

Social Butterflies
Observed a butterfly lately? How it flits from flower to flower, landing softly in the midst of one, fleetingly saying adios to another, always exploring, always moving on to the next.
That's pretty much how my life is at the moment. Being a social butterfly, and knowing, just knowing, that one day, I'll have to leave all these friendships behind, form new ones, then dust them off my cabinet of social relationships when returning back to this sunny island.
Maria commented today that I had the ability to "tune" myself to different wavelengths to suit different groups of people. Do I feel like a social butterfly? Sometimes. There'll always be a close knit group of friends who form my social core: Jesse, Clarence, Jo, XY and gang, the guys from 70 and the bitch gang. Other then that, I guess it's pretty much hello, goodbye and how do you do,
The social networking has been getting to me lately, and I really am torn between staying home and boring myself to death and meeting all you wonderful people out there and chatting about the latest fashions, the new hairdos and rather self-depreciatingly about my ugliness and lack of machoness/alpha-maleness. Thank you very much.
So if you would like to meet me one day, take a queue number, make an appointment, and the doctor will see you when it's your turn.
Or rather not. Sometimes, all we have to sustain us in the monotony and loneliness of life are our friends. Albeit fleeting reminiscences about secondary school follies and JC parties or Army stories. But nonetheless, very real and very important friendships that keep you sane in this insane world.
Sometimes, I wonder if ever I died. Suddenly, abruptly and silently, who would be there to celebrate my life? Who have I touched, to say that "Yes. Lip Jin was a true friend"? And who would NOT mourn my death, but say that while I was alive, I had been a friend, a confidante and a soulmate?
So let's look beyond the customary "How do you do?" and really start getting to know the people around us, to be interested in their lives, to be genuine and less "fake". Sometimes, fakeness just takes away that touch of genuine friendship that you may inadvertently torch in that person sitting across you during dinner. Be yourself, for good, for bad, or for ugly.

Finality
The finality of the moment just bears down on me as I wait for my impending departure off to the US of A.
Friendships here would cease for around 3-4 months while the wonders of MSN would offer a virtual persona for people on the other side of the world to look at while I party away and study away at the cold acadaemic confines of the University.
Mmmmm... All of a sudden, MC/MR, option trading, Theories of firms, Samuelson and Krugman seem to be very appealing yet again.
Or maybe my moods just swing in accordance to the soup of the day at NYDC.

July
4th of July. America's Independence day. With fireworks and free-flow beer and lots of fun, joy and laughter.
Back during the revolution, 4th of July was the day America gained her independence from Great Britain way back in 1776. It was a day gained with much death and suffering, through wars and pain and illnesses and disease.
And today, we celebrate it with fireworks, song and dances and family holidays across the United States.
Which makes you think what Singapore's national day would be when the Founders of Singapore have passed on and generations of Singaporeans lived and breathed the air of freedom that has been passed down. Would it be appreciated? Or would families take their loved ones to a trip overseas, thankful for a day of rest and relaxation away from work?
Think about it.

Malingering
Much hoo-ha has been said about the NSF who died because he wasn't treated "properly" by SAF doctors who thought he was malingering.
The truth is, when you see 100 patients in 4 hours, and 70% are there for "headaches" and "aches", you tend to be more on the suspicious side of things.
This prompted a response from Mr. Kwok Kah Meng in the ST Forums today, a platoon mate of mine back in BMT.
I remember he was excessively intelligent, able to play Chinese Chess AND International Chess at the same time, winning at both games.
He was also accused of malingering by my PS, after numerous "fiascos", including the attempt to avoid field camp and bringing a handphone out to the field when specifically told not to.
And now he is a medical student. Definitely a Captain rank in the future, but mentally, are these medical students strong enough to survive the army? Most are able to, some are not.
And it's a tragedy when an NSF dies. But I've always been respectful of the Israeli Army. They take death in the armed forces as a reality. After all, when you are screwing around with Rifles and bullets and C-4 explosives and TNT, it is a miracle more people ain't dead because of the safety culture in the SAF.
I sound like a hardliner. Maybe I am.

Getting worried about my I-20 form
Hello Chicago.
Where is my I-20 form? I've been waiting for it for months.
Let's see what else I have to do before I leave this sunny "promontory" and venture forth into the unknown cold reaches of outer space. *kidding*
1) Buy winter clothing.
Alas, my winter clothing currently owned is restricted to thermal underwear and 1 miserly sweater I bought from Vietnam. Oh, and I also have a ski jacket from Switzerland for the winter sub-zero weather. To get: 1 x Hoody, 1 x Sweatsuit and various other sweater colours for mixing and matching. Oh and coduroy pants too.
2) Settle I-20 and Visa. Damn this one can't be up to me.
3) Get scholarship details settled. Okay. So where's the allowances? Like clothing allowance, etc etc etc. I think I'll settle most of it myself first, then when the allowance comes, give it back to dad. Or just consider it a gift from him to me:)
4) Meet up with friends. Yes all of you! I must meet up soon. Like if you're coming back from the States/Australia/England etc etc. Let's meet up for drinks, movie, dinner, lunch.. whatever. Just meet up, keep in touch:)
Oh. And I got my Uchicago email. It's lipjin@uchicago.com. How nice.
Anything I missed out?

RJC's Outlook
You know the products of a Singaporean education system when you see one.
Then I looked at the rather geeky picture of the RJC students and I wonder if film stars and actresses that we admire today are actually products of this wonderful education system.
Sure. Tom Cruise couldn't read till he was 20 plus (he was dyslexic), Paris Hilton was born rich.
And we forget the Steve Jobs and the Bill Gates and the Sim Wong Hoos of the world.
Even Desmond from EOCC is a classic example of education not being the only route to success. Albeight he did work hard for what he has today.
And I was playing DotA for "almost" the entire day, and the last game was with this RJC guy who had his physics common test tomorrow. (darkfire88 i think). And there he was, playing DotA battleNET. and there I was as well.
You see, these 4-As, 2 S papers, A1 GP etc etc etc. will not guarantee you happiness or success in life. Any small thing can and WILL take you down.
Like acne. (lol me). Or not being an officer. Or not getting a scholarship. Once you've been accustomed to getting the best in life, you would either
A: Wait for it to come to you.
B: Strive harder to achieve more.
In fact, I feel there are more Type As then type Bs in our society today. I'm pointing the finger to myself. I could have settled my university administration. Packed some luggage. Go out with friends. Learn Salsa (oh wait, i'm learning). Learn a foreign language. Go do community service.
And what do I do? Play DotA with some RJC guy who has a physics test tomorrow.
Granted. He'll probably get at least a B for it. And probably Ace the physics A levels. And the education system today has been so unforgiving to those it considers a failure of the system. ITE, Poly etc etc. All seen to be less than that of a JC education and a university education.
Now, even graduates aren't able to get jobs.
Though we Do have a President's Scholar in People's Magazine most beautiful people in the world. Lol. Ambitious, he is.

Wow. I'm impressed."Top scorer Lim Chang Mou had 4 A-level distinctions, 3 S-paper distinctions and A1 in General Paper. Following closely in the wake were 22 other students who scored 4 A-level distinctions, 2 S-paper distinctions and A1 in GP. Besides Chang Mou, Two other students also had 3 distinctions for S-paper while 91 students scored 2 distinctions for S-paper, and 131 others had 1 distinction for S paper. In fact, the good results did not end there. 560 of the cohort of 742 students, or 75.5 percent, scored 3 or more A-level distinctions making his the best performance RJC had seen in 24 years."-Outlook, RJC publication

Blogging
Notice I seldom blog about current affairs and stuff like that.
Like how Brazil beat Germany 3-2, or the Sarong Party Girl incident and the hoopla surrounding it, or how Desperate Housewife's cast was on Oprah last night, or how building Casinos is wrong, or how spending 80 million/billion on a MRT line to the casino is a weird decision considering the government wants to stop Singaporeans from getting there.
The point is, my blog was not built for readership:). Oxymoronic I know. There's a part that longs for like 3000 hits a day, but then I'll be happy when my hit counter spikes over 10:) haha.
I blog about my life, no matter how uninteresting or how boring it may be to you. If you don't care about it, then don't read this blog. I mean, it's only a means to stay in touch with long lost friends and see what they've been up to these couple of months/weeks/days. Or what they feel about certain issues in the Singapore media.
And when I do feel strongly about something, I usually blog about it. Just to have a gauge of where I was standing back then (when I look back in hindsight) and wonder why I even posted that kind of post that I did.
Enough musings. Back to Dota.

This got me thinking
So i was blog surfing again, at 4 a.m. on a Thursday night, with absolutely no one to talk to online (because I don't feel like) and catching up with the day's news.
Nadal is out of Wimbledon, 40m credit cards hacked, Engineers have the greatest job satisfaction, etc.etc.etc.
And then I stumbled upon a linked blog.
And it got me thinking.
Sometimes, i wonder if we all have moved from our relationships far enough. I have always thought that the transtion for a couple from being a couple to "friends" is in practice almost nearly impossible.
In short, Ex-es are people you and love, and that doesn't change. That's what I feel.
You see, relationships are more about heart than head, about attraction more than anything. You can read all the theories you like, but when you fall for someone, bam, you're it.
And people take time to learn. I think most people tend to take relationships one at a time. To rule with their heart in their first love, to step back and take things slow in subsequent before they finally strike a balance between loving someone and being a "best friend".
I don't know. But you see, I've never met a guy friend who hasn't move on entirely since. Out of the top of my head, i can safely say that every single guy is still in love with his girlfriend(s), or at the very least, his first girlfriend.
That was when there were no responsibilities, no social barriers, no 4000 mile distances to separate two people who deeply wanted a romance. Not a pragmatic love that comes with age, but a romance that just twirls you off your feet and fulfils every cinderella story you've ever read.
sometimes, i'm glad i've thrown everything away. Other times, i really miss those memories that the letters, the gifts and the small postcards could bring. I keep my penpal letters and cards from my friends, but I don't have a single thing left from her.
you see, it's just too painful. perhaps, the fear of losing someone for a long period of time just took us apart. i mean, how many times has it happened before? It isn't the present that tears you apart, it's the fear of the future.
thanks, my friend, for a good talk last night. you know who you are =) i can't say.
and on a final note, i am going to close this blog down soon. again, it's a running away from my past, perhaps, an erasure of my memories that have become too painful to recall, such that you only recall the beautiful memories and relive them in your head.
I don't know, but perhaps we all have taken a bit longer to heal. And all of us find our own solace in things we do, be it music, poetry, blogging, jumping up and down or just plain looking for a fling.
thanks to all my friends who have frequented here. I shall save my entries and start a new life once i'm gone.
Just counting down the days till i leave. No regrets, no worries. trying to leave it all behind somewhere, sometime, someplace.
peace

I am not usually cynical
I realised that my blogs give the impression to people that i am
-Hypocritical

It's something I reserve exclusively for this blog so that I don't blow my usually hot top at you.

Interesting Dream
I had a very interesting dream last night.
I dreamt that:
-I was dancing a Hwa Chong Mass Dance
-With one of my HCJC classmates (can't remember who)
-In my primary school compound
-To the changed tune of the National Anthem
-to which my vice principal was singing
Freaaakkkyyyy...

Musings from a hospital
I was woken up abruptly today by Dad in at 13:43. His request was simple: bring grandma to hospital as she was complaining about her eye being painful again.
A small matter in hindsight, but i was out of the house by 13:55 and off to Chai Chee by 14:00.
On the way, i saw the white-washed walls of Chai Chee estate and the elderly living there, sitting at the coffeeshops below, chatting among themselves.
And i was thinking, Are we leaving these pioneers behind in our drive for economic prosperity in the new economy today?
I should very much think so. While all i could think about was the latest gadget in digital life, how my University life was going to pan out and which friend should i ask to go Zouk tomorrow, my grandma was asking herself what should she do that day, and what should she buy for lunch and other more pertinent questions to live life.
and then i realised that my extended family has not met up for some time, due to estranged daughter-in-laws and multi-religious families. and I thought it was right to bring her to the doctor's as I had nothing to do that day at all after finishing Clarence's Dad's work.
You see, your decisions don't just affect you. And frankly, people are self-centred all over the world, be it Singapore, America, Europe, Cambodia, Pakistan. Many times, we feel that decisions we take, who we love, who we marry, who we argue with only affect 2 beings. But the repercussions are great and everything is interconnected.
Which is why I tend to keep my cynicism to myself and only express it when I'm with close friends.
And which is probably why those who think they know me well don't really know me at all.
And which is probably why I prefer to keep my distance from people sometimes, even though i probably learnt a great deal about relationships from the army.
Everyone has that bit of selfish gene inside them. It is unheard of for someone to be totally altruistic.
Just some rantings from a day at the hospital.
"Healthcare is so expensive in Singapore. It's $100 for a doctor and medication for a small eye problem"
"Doctors are cynical and very cold. They have to be. It's their job not to care too much because they will tend to suffer emotionally if they care too much for a patient"
"Microsoft Word is an interesting programme. Those who master it are few and far between indeed."

I just feel... Empty
I had to blog this.
It has been like this ever since army started. I don't know why. I act happy all outside, etc etc etc, but really, i'm just very bored and very... frustrated with life as a human being.
I don't know what's the cause. Boredom? Lack of purpose? Lack of God (as all christians might say)? Lack of a fucking partner?
Whatever it is, I'm just bored and tired and drained of being in Singapore and living the Singaporean lifestyle and sick and tired of being a gentleman and acting like I care.
When actually I don't give a flying fuck.
Sometimes I just want to be Bruce Wayne, To all those hypocrites who stick around, smiling your fake ass smiles, and pretending to enjoy human interactions:
Fuck yourselves. Fuck off and leave me alone.
Fuck. Maybe being friends with your ex is seriously not a good idea. No wonder a lot of people don't really do that.
Or maybe it's just engineer life. In camp and everything.
Or maybe I'm just sick of smart ass shits. Or rich shits.
Whatever.
I'm just feeling full of angst and feeling that the whole wide world is fucked up.
So leave me alone.

Feed me, Fuck me, Shut the Fuck up
Now, boyfriends boyfriends.
You all don't know how lucky you all are.
It's always the same story, boy meets girl, boy looks at girl, girl looks at boy, sparks fly. *poof* a couple is formed.
Now, in ALMOST every single fucking relationship i've seen, the guy always never ever fails to give the girl crap.
Like real shit.
Maybe because i've been hearing too much of the girl's side of the story. Guys just don't talk that much after all.
Here are some of the crap that, as the male species, we always never fail to throw at our gals.
1) Get insanely jealous over small shits
You know the drill. Girl goes out without you, you're bored for awhile, start imagining crap, you actually like her (instead of just the sex), and suddenly, your mind is running out of control.
and every single little thing becomes a big blown up piece of shit.
like
*escalates*
It's almost always the same. You have a bad mood, and you, the motherfucker, take it out on the person closest to you.
2) She actually Gives A DAMN
I lost count of the number of times I've been turned down to drink/party/meet up/play pool/supper etc etc because...
"Oh. he's free that day"
Ok twits. Get it. The gal is not going out gallivating with some other guy when she has time. She actually gives a damn what the fuck you think. And how the fuck you feel, even if you're just some mother fucking twit who keeps on giving hell to her.
So please gentlemen, act civil and nice for once. And actually pay attention to her feelings. I had a friend who said once: "All guys want is the thrill of the chase".
A little over-arching to encompass *all* guys, but I give her the benefit. So guys, please please please, once you get going, give a little shit to what is actually happening will ya?
DISCLAIMER: I just felt indignant at being turned down for winebar by almost every single person I asked, albeight at a very short notice.
So I thought up cute little scenarios in my head.
I guess I'll always be the *gay best friend* category. *woot* But then, guys, when was I ever gay to begin with:)?

10 Surefire ways to lose your girl
Maybe not 10, but close enough. Here i'll just chronicle the best surefire ways to lose your girlfriend in very very easy steps.
1) Make her your whole existence
you heard me right. your gotta love her so much, you two are inseparable. 2000 SMSes a month? Not enough to profess your love. Make that 100'000 SMS. Call her every night to say "I love you". And listen to her breathe. That's right. Breaths can be the best thing to say I love you with. And fall asleep while chatting, because you want her to be the last thing you hear before you hit the deck.
2) Deny her her existence
Get jealous of her showing off her body in a bikini? Ban her from going to the beach. Or swimming. Or anywhere where there's remotely 1 guy who's going to look at her without your protective gaze. (of course, when you're with her, you are just going to look at her and not at her surroundings to "protect" her). Insist that she stays at home when you aren't free to be with her, and that she does not go out with other people at all. Girlfriends are okay, but WOE to her if she meets up with a guy while "out with the girls".
3) Do things together, all the time
She likes cross stitch? Take up cross stitch, so you can be with her at her place or yours and enjoy cross stitching together. She likes shopping? Be her shopping partner all the time. Know her bra size, vital statistics, favourite brands, favourite places to shop etc etc etc. Always look bored after the 123871245761724th time of entering the same shop and looking at the same piece of clothing she has in her closet but in a slightly darker shade of blue. Oh and, ogle every girl you can look at as well. It's your right.
4) Talk about ex-girlfriends and compare them with her.
Sally had bigger boobs, Mandy was the nympho and Candy really let you do whatever you wanted, whenever you wanted. So why can't you be the same as Kelly/Molly/Sandy?
5) You're the MAN!
When i say sex, i want sex. I'm the quintessential man. I get what I want, when I want it. Fuck be to you. And i'm so fucking great, i blow my trumpet all the time I am out with you, and belittle every single fucker who has graced your fucking existence since: THEY CAN'T COMPARE WITH ME! I'M THE BIGGEST AND THE GREATEST!
6) You're the Wimp!
Ditch the SNAG. It's Gay.
7) Shut the fuck up.
Don't ever communicate with her. Just grunt. Like
A grunt says that you're a manly man, not some wussy. Grunt more often during sex, and shut the fuck up afterwards. Don't even cuddle. You need to sleep.
*yawn* getting tired.
These are the ones that I could think just top of my head at the moment. I'm sorry, I really am. I was such an ass (now i realise)

Barflies by Jon
Barfly:
He walks into a bar
With a briefcase full of sorrow
And a headful of bad memories
He doesnt need them anymore
But his heart won’t let them go
He fetches a stool
Makes like everything is cool
And starts drinking his gin
Chorus:
His life’s like this every day
Sin after goddamn sin
He knows his solitude
He’s used to this mood
He thinks the world doesn’t have a clue
But we do..
Cos you and I are barflies too
She walks into a bar
With a handbag full of tears
Her makeup is flaking
But she doesn’t care
Hides behind her double vodka
She slumps in a chair
Makes like everything’s okay
Her glass in her hand
Chorus:
Her life’s like this every day
Sin after goddamn sin
She knows his solitude
She’s used to this mood
She thinks the world doesn’t have a clue
But we do..
Cos you and I are barflies too
listen to it here .
My Band's songs are better i think, but applause on the lyrics.

Female Orgasm is DOWN TO GENES!
This is fucking hilarious.
Ok ladies, if you take longer than 20 minutes to orgasm while fingering youself, I'm the man for you.
Powerful, strong, thoughtful. Yeah that's me:)

The findings also suggest that women who orgasm easily may be satisfied with mates who are less skilled in bed.
Ok ladies, if you take longer than 20 minutes to orgasm while fingering youself, I'm the man for you.
One theory is that the orgasm promotes fertility. Past research shows women are slightly more likely to orgasm during periods of fertility and that sperm uptake is increased during orgasm.
"The other theory is that orgasm is a male-selection tool," said Professor Spector.
"If a man is considered powerful enough, strong enough, or thoughtful enough in bed or in the cave, then he's likely to hang around as a long-term partner and be a better bet for bringing up children."
Powerful, strong, thoughtful. Yeah that's me:)

NUS Law and Business are moving
Hmmm this is something new. Guess I haven't been reading the news for some time.
For those uninitiated, saw on Singapore Ink that the Law and Business schools are moving to the Bukit Timah Campus.
Now now, with SMU gone, the concentration of "chio bu" i.e. pretty babes in Bukit Timah is going to drop by a hell lot.
Don't agree? Ever been to an SMU party? Well, you should if you haven't. It's choke full of "chio bus". Now that SMU is going to the brand new city campus, adam road and NIE swimming complex is going to be so boring now.
Sigh. I actually thought about going SMU for the campus and the "Excellent" academic environment there. But then, I thought again and decided against it:)
So now, with Business and Law moving to the Bukit Timah Campus, there will be another form of chio bu taking over in District 10. Essentially, Law girls and guys are known to be party powerhouses, very vocal and tend to know quite a lot of acting. (i.e. Serena Tan, Adrian Pang etc etc.) I must add that Law girls are also the main factor in keeping NUS a decent school to study in. Besides arts of course.
And Business is pretty cool as well. Now, if they move the arts campus, we're going to have babes galore in Bukit Timah, and all the Engineering and Medicine and "others" can just procreate themselves.
The result would be a prettier and more hunky population emerging in the centre of Singapore and ugly and short people on the outskirts. Especially in the west,
I just love the way the Government thinks. Social engineering in a very very discreet way.

From Hanting.
Every Joy Not Cherished...
Come now, dab those tears away
Put those gloomy thoughts aside
With an open mind hear what I have to say
It's only assistance I'm trying to provide
Life can suck pretty much sometimes
Some even say it's a mother dog
Unpleasantly sour like an unripe lime
Unbearably torturous as an after-meal jog
No doubt the odds against you are stacked real high
And most things seem quite unfair
No certainties upon which to rely
It's no surprise there's no end of grievances to air
But here's the all-important bit
The part that can set you aside from the rest
Though fully appreciating it is tough, I admit
Once you do Life's problems will cease to be a mess
It's simply recognizing that your attitude
Belongs to you and you alone
And since to you it's in servitude
You can change its quality, character and tone
Learn to cherish the good things that happen
For every joy not cherished is a joy lost
And in a world already sorrow overladen
Could you afford to bear this cost?
Don't lose hope and you can't go wrong
Keep on fighting for what's important to you
Wallowing in self-pity's fine but don't wallow too long

Come now, dab those tears away
Put those gloomy thoughts aside
With an open mind hear what I have to say
It's only assistance I'm trying to provide
Life can suck pretty much sometimes
Some even say it's a mother dog
Unpleasantly sour like an unripe lime
Unbearably torturous as an after-meal jog
No doubt the odds against you are stacked real high
And most things seem quite unfair
No certainties upon which to rely
It's no surprise there's no end of grievances to air
But here's the all-important bit
The part that can set you aside from the rest
Though fully appreciating it is tough, I admit
Once you do Life's problems will cease to be a mess
It's simply recognizing that your attitude
Belongs to you and you alone
And since to you it's in servitude
You can change its quality, character and tone
Learn to cherish the good things that happen
For every joy not cherished is a joy lost
And in a world already sorrow overladen
Could you afford to bear this cost?
Don't lose hope and you can't go wrong
Keep on fighting for what's important to you
Wallowing in self-pity's fine but don't wallow too long
Especially when there's so much to do!
Remember that Life's not a journey
Meant to be completed alone in a day
There's friends, family, a trainee-attorney

Fuzzy Little Feelings
I was watched "Meet Joe Black" starring Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins and Claire Forlani.

It was free on preview channel, and I had nothing to do. In fact I was dead plain bored.
On a side note, I think that Claire Forlani is stunning and very very beautiful. And I feel that she did a good job in the movie, although it was panned by critics.
I am talking about fuzzy little feelings here, and I think the movie had a huge storyline about fuzzy little feelings, or that little thing called "love".
Crazy little thing called love.
Love between a couple, between a father and daughter, between strangers, between colleagues. Of course, there was always the cute spectre of Death to mull over, which my sister did with increasing glee as the show wore on.
Love is such a complex emotion. People in love tend to dread falling OUT of love. In fact, the dread increases to such a point that many times, you could feel pain.
I know, I've been there.
And frankly, a lot of people, once fallen out of love, never want to fall in love again. They get scared, they get frightened, they try to kid themselves that it's not something they want.
And when they're home alone, lying in bed, they wonder. "What could have been"
and so, these people build up defenses around themselves. They wall themselves up emotionally, spiritually. They hide themselves into their own emotional wall, so closeted away from the real world, people start to wonder, who is the real you?
Sometimes, I wonder what maketh a guy. Being wimpy and emotional and "in touch" with your feelings is so passe. Before this, there was all the talk about being a SNAG. You know, the Sensitive New Age GAY. I don't get girls anymore. I totally don't.
One moment, they're like "SINGAPOREAN GUYS ARE WIMPS!" Then other times, they want a strong man, a MAN MAN, an Alpha-Male-of-the-urban-jungle. (I for one, am inclined to believe that caucasians get more singaporean pussy then us.)
Editor's Note: Risque and R(21) blogging follows
But again, I digress. You see, being an Alpha Male is likely to get you the occassional pussy. In fact, if your whole life was about getting pussy, you'd probably be very happy being an Alpha Male.
The truth is, most guys don't want a lot of pussy. They just want ONE pussy. They just want someone to call their own. And frankly, in this day and age, that someone to call their own isn't going to call him "her one and only". Too bad guys, wake up and smell the roses.
So this brings forth the question, If everyone is "Jumping the Gun", "Testing the Ride", "Sampling the fare" etc etc. why shouldn't I do it as well?
I don't know. Perhaps the Male anatomy is configured to spread his seed to as many females as possible. While the Female understands this and seeks to find "love" with sex.
Classic Exchange as such:
Sounds familiar? Or maybe females are out for a quick fuck as well.
You see, as more and more Men's magazines explore the mystery of the female orgasm, more females are going to associate sex with pleasure. and frankly, for 2000 years, sex has been associated, to the female mind, with pain, childbirth, etc etc etc.
So now more men know how to get a gal to orgasm. (DAMN, there goes my greatest weapon in my arsenal). And with the advent of birth control, it becomes more conducive for the girl to engage in sex before marriage, now that the equation that sex=pain no longer exists.
Perhaps it is time for us males to look for that next conquest. That next girl dancing in the club, looking forlorn and lonely. That girl working behind the counter, looking as though she's just been dumped. That girl reading up a book on dating at Borders. You could be like that.
Or you could be like me, believing that there might just be someone out there for you. And trying to find the next person who would make your heart skip a beat yet again.
I've only found one thus far. And I'm still looking. Once I get overseas that is:).
All the mysteries of the world revealed, just by watching Claire Forlani. Sigh.

Isn't she lovely?
Just a quote from somewhere.

Oh is it really true that once a lover will alwiz be ya lover? Nah... I dun think so... Wellz... It'll be kinda unfair to whoever the subsequent lovers are... Dunch u think so. I mean if u were to juz keep loving a person whom has ended that relationship with u... N u try to move on with another person... Do u really love the next person that comes along? Or does ya heart still stand still at where it used to be... with ya old lover? If tt's the case... Why bother moving on with the next person? So that she/he can heal ya wounds for u?

Confidence, Challenge and (Self) Control
I remember back then in EOAC, we had this talk about how sad our lives were in the army and how hard it was to meet girls and yada yada yada...
So Weiyi started talking about how he bought Doc Love's book and immediately, he hooked up with this damn attractive gal la.
What the hell..
But then it didn't last. His excuse was that he didn't read the chapter on "How to make it last"
Haha.
Anyway, i've been ranting against "playa's" for a damn long time. And i stopped. You see, i wondered, every guy just wants to be this playa deep down.
There's always someone you admire. And someone who admires you. Trust me. It works both ways. You can have the shittiest self confidence ever and all you have to do is ask your friends. And lo and behold, there'll always be one person who admires you for that someone you are, be it academic, social skills, or leadership ability or other more intangible stuff.
But i digress.
You see, i was wondering what women want. And out of COMPLETE BOREDOM, i started going through my spam mail.
And i came across some dating guides.
Oh my god. It was damn funny. It made me laugh my guts out.
Basically, i learnt some things today. (Okay never learn them today, it's something i always knew).
1) Women SAY they want a sensitive, nice, caring guy.
2) Women PRIMALLY want a guy who is macho, egotistical and cocky.
3) All you need is a sense of humour.
Which brings me to the conclusion that hanting should be a ladies' magnet.
Why not, he is fucking funny, he has tons of confidence and he is nice, caring and sensitive. (okay okay, i am not GAY for god's sake)
You see, i've always wondered why attractive people always tend to go out with less attractive people. Screw Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. THAT was a freak of nature.
as I was saying. Sometime along my life, i got into NS. and that kinda screwed my entire life up. Even now, i am bored, lonely and home at 2:57 am in the morning typing this shit. Seems to me like my social life is dead and buried.
But then i think again.
My social life is actually quite fine. In fact, i've been out EVERY SINGLE DAY. HUH?!!
But still, i'm suffering from not having a gf for so freaking long. haha. it sux actually, but it's an active choice i am taking so that i can just fly off to Chicago without any regrets.
Bullshit. Sometimes i should just become a playa and have fun and screw around for 4 months and leave everything behind.
But again, I digress.
SO, (back to the story of EOAC), me and Weiyi were discussing dating in general. And he told me the 3 magical steps to get ANY girl you want. Even cindy crawford type.
Remember my joke some posts before about her height being the same as my dick? That was a cocky, confident response to someone like Cindy Crawford.
Of course, remove the laptop in front of me and put me physically there and i'll be reduced to a blabbering fool. I'll probably go something like "can i clean you high heels please goddes" and smack myself on my head.
So, the 3 magical words are:
1) Confidence. That i have tons of. Right. Come on man, You find me someone who has HALF of what i have achieved. Then you can come grovel in front of me. However, most of the people i've met say I am arrogant. Whatever. Talk to the hand.
2) Challenge. This requires some explanation. You need to "pretend" to "not like" the girl so it raises her "interest level" in you. In short, stop acting like the blabbering fool and think you are Brad Pitt and girls swoon over you.
and in the morning, wake up to the sad fact that you are still alone and ugly and need Dr. Woffles Wu to surgically remove your face.
3) Self Control. That means not to call her every 3 minutes to ask her about her day. In fact. Act as though you don't give a fuck.
Now. For the clincher.
I've actually seen this at work BEFORE!
My very very very good "Friend" in EOCC actually employed this technique to such a degree of excellence i was bowled over by the sherr audacity and temerity of it all.
You see, all you have to do is act arrogant and cocky and treat her like dirt.
And SHE ACTUALLY LIKES IT!
*boggle*
And when i raised the issue of "manipulation" right in front of her, she gave it a thought and said "THAT's TRUE! HE IS MANIPULATING ME!"
and the next time he calls, she's reduced to a wimpering manipulated little girl.
Wonderful.
Sometimes, nice people just finish dead last.
and frankly, althought i've learnt alot from Desmond, to treat people well, to network effectively, to pay attention to people's needs, to keep my contacts... all in the name of being a better person, and hopefully a better business leader and influencer/leader, I should learn something from the players of the world.
In short, Confidence, Challenge and (Self) Control.
DAMN my wireless connection died on me again. I HATE THIS SHIT. adious people. and really, i'll call most of you up to keep in touch before i fly to the windy city of Chicago.
Counting down. And can't wait to leave.

There is only one way to God.
Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism.
My search for some meaning/truth in life has taken me on a journey since I was 16.
In fact, i first went to church (Presbyterian) when I was 14. Because i was talented and i was outspoken and outgoing, I was pretty much part of the core group in the youth ministry. Also, being musically inclined had me serving in the music ministry for 3 years.
I really don't know now. But at that time, perhaps i wasn't serving that much.
Readers can switch off now if they think i am going on a christian slant. In fact, undenialbly, i have always believed in a creator. I just didn't believe in the Christian Gospel.
Who is Christ to claim he is the Son of God? Who is Christ to send people to hell? Who is God to destroy entire cities when there may be innocents living in Sodom and Gonorrhea?
And as i learnt more about other religions, about Buddhism, about Taoism, about Hinduism, about Islam. I think i tended to believe less and less in the Christian message.
Essentially, the Christian message is still the same one, as it has always been: Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes before the Father except through me.
Stinking Christians. Who is He to claim that Judaism is wrong, that Buddhism is wrong, the Islam is wrong.
As i found out more, I realised that most religions teach a "Morality". Catholicism or Christianity does not. They teach that Jesus is the Lord. And to surrender to him is to surrender your will, your everything, to him.
I didn't want to give up myself. Christianity appeals to your very idea of you being an independant soul. Everywhere else, you are the center of your soul. Buddhism teaches that you can achieve Nirvana without God. It is essentially atheistic in it's message.
Islam I must admit I do not know it that well, mainly because I cannot understand arabic. One of the tenets of Islam is that the Koran must be understood in Arabic. Mind you, even your friendly neighbourhood muslim may not understand Arabic to the degree that scholars would. It is a spoken revelation to Muhammed from Allah. And frankly, Muhammed's "miracles" were ascribed to him by others, not by himself.
Unlike Jesus who claimed to bring people back from the dead, to heal disease, to be able to offer life to all people who are "dead" already.
I used to go, who the hell are you to condemn me that i am dead before I am truly dead and buried?
I really don't know. Perhaps I have always held a moralistic view of the world precisely because of my exposure to Christianity at a young age. My most violent objections to accepting Christianity came from my intellect.
Let's explore those objections.
1) Church History is violent. Crusades, politics among popes.
2) The New Testament is a collection of Gospels and the decision to collate these Gospels were made by Constantine the Great. It was a political decision made to unite the Roman empires.
and from extension: The bible is a Human Creation. even the O.T. was written by prophets and Humans.
3) There are immoral Christians in the world today. Cardinals who engage in paedophillia, Christians who kill.
4) I can always believe in Christ after I am 70 years old, and i can lead a life of moral debuchary NOW if i want. After all, God forgives.
Sounds like good objections don't they?
God said "Seek me and ye shall find". Well, most people don't even BOTHER to seek. Perhaps I have always been seeking, but the answers to everything are still shrouded in a veil of mystery.
Perhaps I shall go theological college, just to find out more.

Chapter 1
Opponents of Theism would point to this point as being totally against the doctrines of the Church: That there is a Loving God, one who is omnipotent, omniscience, omnipresent. Also, the Christian God is all-good and inexplicably, being omnipotent and omnipresent AND all-good, evil still exists in the world.
Evil such as Hitler, such as Pol-Pot, such as *ahem* shall not say.
Then again, there are the environmental evils. Tsunamis happen, droughts happen, people die of AIDS, a terrible illness, spread in Africa not via unprotected sex, but more often, from mothers to daughters to sons.
If God is all-loving, why doesn't He do something?
Try telling "God's will" to a father who lost his family to the tsunami. He'll say "fuck God".
But God allows pain. Why?
Let's be a little cynical for a moment. Let's just say that God's a dominatrix. He thrives in pain, he loves pain.
But then again, if we take away all the pain in the world, all the suffering, take away the droughts, take away the tsunamis, take away human conquest (because it causes wars), take away the holocaust, take away everything evil.
We wouldn't have good. We wouldn't have Saint Theresa (because there'll be no one to help), we wouldn't have heroes like Schindler, we wouldn't have Michael Jackson, who plays with underpriviledge kids.
Fact is, our world would be boring. To borrow a Jedi phrase: "One must go through trials and tribulations before he is learned and before he knows himself."
If God put little bunnies into every manicured field in the world and had humans watch television all day, half the population who loved television would be happy, the other half would not.
If the programme was American Idol, those people who dislike AI would be incensed.
So God could just pre-empt all the world's problems when He created Adam and Eve. Create humans without free will. Then every thing would be nice and smooth sailing. But then, you could never call them Humans.
Bad idea. Evil exists because humans have free will.
If Eve didn't have the free will to choose to eat the apple, we would not have be cast out of the Garden of Eden (If you believe the legend).
And frankly, If God didn't exist, there would be no Moral Ambiguity. If you say that Morality is a question forged through the ages by philosophers and Saints, then where did we get out "concept" of Good from?
If procreation is Good, Why is rape bad? after all, rape is just procreation of the human species.
now to convince myself of my own arguments. perfectly logical. perfectly scientific. and perfectly FOR theism.
Next Chapter of The Book please.

A Case For Faith - Lee Strobel
And So it begins.
My quest to find and regain my faith in Jesus Christ once again. Whether friends would rejoice, or whether they would say that i have taken the path for the weak-minded, it is for me to decide.
I always thought that religion was one for the weak minded, those would could not stand on their own two feet, think with their own brains, and solve problems with their own intellect.
Or perhaps religion is a way to connect to other people, to open your world, and to meet and greet new people you have never known or even dared to talk to before.
Skeptics might say:
1) He's doing this because he's desperate to get a girl.
I don't refute that. I mean, christian girls are "chio". and no harm getting to know more people. And of course, people who say that going to church is about "God" can look at the congregation and throw that thought to hell. People go to church to make friends, to have social lives.
They just call it "Fellowship". And frankly, some of my best friends today were friends i made back then when i attended church. Not to mention how many couples have hooked up via "Church". So yeah, the church is a good "SDU". Why not? And of course, the "God" part SHOULD come later.
2) I need intellectual discourse to solve my doubts about the Christian faith. The blurb of the book reads:
"Strobel turns his skills to the most persistent emotional objections to belief - the eight "heart" barriers to faiths."
These are:
1) Since Evil and Suffering Exist, A Loving God Cannot.
Very Buddha. Very Zen. I like. (In case you people don't know, Buddha believed he could TRANSCEND God. He didn't say there was no God, Siddartha just thought he could attain Nirvana - to be without God)
2) Since Miracles Contradict Science, They Cannot Be True
Hmmm can't wait to get to this chapter. Probably going to be some chapter on scientific facts for miracles.
3) Evolution Explains Life, So God Isn't Needed.
Total Bullshit. God is needed just as much as Air is needed. Simply because humans have a basic need for understanding and spiritual support. It's just a question of WHY should be accept and believe in a montheistic, vengeful God such as Yahweh. (When other alternatives existed before, such as Ba'al).
4) God Isn't Worthy of Worship If He Kills Innocent Children.
Right. Like the Cardinal Bernard Law "LOVES" children. WACKO JACKO, if you ask me. Fucking Paedophiles.
5) It's Offensive to Claim Jesus Is the Only Way to God.
Well, Jesus said so himself. Plus what other ways are there? Okay okay, muslims will go Mohammed. I get it.
6) A Loving God Would Never Torture People in Hell.
NOW NOW NOW, where did we get the idea that Hell=torture? Maybe it's just being AWAY/WITHOUT God. Of course, to Christians, that's a bad thing, but to the rest of the world, it's not such a bad thing after all. Also, Hell is a pretty solid place if you ask me, not that I've seen it before. Why spend eternity with Pope John Paul II when you can spend it with Kurt Cobain and Michael Jackson?
7) Church History is Littered with Oppression and Violence.
Now, this one hits the nail right on my head. Can't wait to see what arguments he has against this. After all, past sins are ALWAYS utilised against the present situation. You mean we must FORGIVE the Church? Uhmmm. Crusades. brother, Crusades.
8) I Still Have Doubts, So I Can't Be a Christian.
Bull. Ask any christian. They ALL HAVE DOUBTS.
So ends the 8 retorts to the barriers to faith. I shall get started on the book, and report on my findings. Christian friends, Pray for me. Non-Christian friends, I would like to meet up and discuss over a cup of coffee or Vodka:).
Then again, we could always talk about the history of Buddhism and Hinduism. I'm the religion guru. Cool man.

Liverpool. Champions League Champs. 2004/2005
Says it all doesn't it?
When you are at M.ade I.n A.nfield, the official liverpool fan club, shouting your guts out, cursing the father mother and grandparents of everyone remotely associated with Milan, drunk with lots of Carlsberg and a jug of long island tea, smoked at least 10 sticks of cigarettes, talked with a whole bunch of folks who were liverpool fans, jeered the milan fan who walked in, you FEEL the atmosphere.
When Liverpool were 3-0 down at halftime, you feel the dejection.
When Liverpool started scoring. Bang 3-1, Bang 3-2, Bang 3-3, you knew it was destiny.
When Liverpool survived a Shevchenko double shot late late late in the game, you knew we had to win it.
When Serginho Ballooned, you hoped.
When Riise Missed, you moaned.
When Dudek saved. That was it.
Liverpool 2004/2005. A season to remember.
MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN THE TREBLE.

Bored Existance...
my lack of success at finding a job lately has been the cause of much distress to my parents.
of course, said parents are not aware of the fact that i am not doing anything to get my bum moving out of the house to work for cash.
but one should always give the impression that one is looking for work, so that you instill confidence in your parents that you have the "Drive" and "Motivation" to work instead of asking them for cash.
The only "Drive" i have nowadays is the type where i drive out at 1 am to have supper with friends. Motivation is reserved for Knights of the Old Republic 2. Very fun.
For all of you calling me a bum, i do have a job.
Indeed, i am currently giving piano classes at $200 a pop. Tides me over the weekends.
You know, $200 for 6 hours of work a month is heavenly. It's barely what i call work, and teaching kids is such a joy. I need another piano student to really rock the high life. No wonder there are such people called "professional" piano teachers.
Phui. To be the best, you must learn FROM the best. and frankly, i'm doing this for fun. Because i didn't use to need the money. But now i do:)
Unemployment has never been better. Only 4 more months to go before I leave this "sunny promontory" (btw, a promontory is a island/cliff with water on 3 sides.... technically the causeway is a landlink), to go to the "Windy City" to study.
I was reading Paul Krugman's economic essays last night, and boy, SHIT i have forgotten like 150% of what i knew. I am dumber than my sister now. You never hear me admitting that.
Back to lightsabers and killing dark sided Sith lords.

Guess what, to those who don't know yet, my JC class has a class blog.
I figure out that blogging is the best and easiest way to keep in touch. After all, yahoogroups is pretty much defunct, ecircles is crap, friendster is just too much work.
My class happens to have (let's see... 1, 2, 3, .... ) eleven glorious people studying overseas. (Wait, maybe 12, cos wendy's doing her attachment in Sweden. (in more ways than one. attachment to guys?)
So, having a class blog makes sense, because we get to keep in touch with one another, as well as reading about singapore stuff, and also what everyone is getting up to with their sorry little lives.
On another note, i wish to travel. again.
but i have no cash. Fuck it.
It's like, me: "Dad, can i go travelling again?"
Dad:"no."
me:"but why? reason 1: blah blah blah, reason 2, blah blah blah. reason 3 blah blah blah... "
Dad:"no."
right.
Anyway, someone said it right. I heard it during my indochina trip: When you have time to travel, you don't have money. When you have money, you have no time.
How true.
Rich kids sometimes just get all the luck. Sometimes, i wish i were filthy rich. Like swimming in cash. Fat Hope.
And frankly, i'm too lazy to do anything about it. Dad wanted me to go for an investing course in options and derivatives (can you believe i'm only 21?), and i went like... Who's money am i going to trade? YOURS?
Right.
Then again, I have Baldur's Gate 2 to keep me occupied till i fly over to Chicago for my Undergraduate studies.
Sometimes, i feel humans are loners, other times, they need support and friends.
Today, i was just feeling like a loner
So shut the fuck up and leave me alone.
and lately, i'm still online a lot, but i tend to go on Appear Offline mode, cause i don't feel like talking to anyone. sigh. Wad's wrong with me

From A Deeply Hurt Daughter
Click in the link above.
I know more than a few people who have felt this way. And frankly, it's sad that people do have broken families to contend with.
Trouble is, it is our own personal responsibility to ENSURE that our children will not go through the same fate of a broken family as some of our more unfortunate friends have.
Then again, when love has died, and her flaws become apparent, is the institution of marriage strong enough to last through the remaining years? when companionship morphs into a daily grind of nags, quarrels and disagreements, would you still stick by the vows "till death do us part"?
I don't see it in today's society. And frankly, zhengyan did say something right today:
More often than not, it is our relationships.
adious people, off to the US of A i go.
Where free love and divorce are norms, and 50% of teenagers come from a single parent family.
Way to go.

I am a private.
I dunno.
I think i tend to blog more about issues at the world, and not really about myself as much. Frankly, because i think if it is none of your god damned business, you shouldn't give a fuck about me.
Conversely, i am always interested in how's your day, and what's up in your life. Call me a busybody if you're negative, but i'm more likely to view it as being interested in that person and being a friend.
Of course, with all these taking of information and very little giving out, people have accused me of being cold, that they don't "know" me very well.
I like it that way just fine. I mean, why do i want so many people to know about me?
oh today, i had fried egg for lunch and rice and vegetables, and i sat down at the dining table and finished the straits times and after that i came to by computer and read forums and blogs and after that i'm meeting wenliang, shaun and yikai for mahjong at my place.
and last night, i went for supper with the guys at 1 am and because i was feeling a bit peckish i ordered stingray and kangkong (With rice) and mee goreng and kambing soup. and talked about british politics, american culture, geography and soccer.
now why would anyone in their right mind want to know that?
i know i am not forthcoming. i never have been. in fact, i like to be the observer, knowing much, but not giving up much information. that is just how i am. screw you if you think i don't consider you a friend because i don't tell you more stuff than i should.
but, i may break precepts.
lately, something disturbing has happened. ever thought about mix marriages?
i don't know. i seem to have aunts with korean boyfriends, swedish mixes, british boys and many others.
but what about ching-mat relations?
is it still accepted in traditional chinese families to have a ching-mat relationship? the couple may be in love, and there may be educational gaps and cultural differences.
but the most fervent opposition has to be from the families. whether the malay side, where the bride must marry into the religion, or the chinese side, where the parents dread "losing" a daughter they knew.
and even so, how about the grandparents?
my grandma said with a sad voice to me the other day when i was sending her for a medical checkup.
"She doesn't even eat pork anymore".
i don't know. maybe our younger generation is more open to such things, but even i am feeling the pressures of being the first grandson in a traditional chinese family.
i remember my grandmother bringing me downstairs when i was staying in laguna park, burning incense and paper "nuggets" for my ancestors. i took it up with gusto back then. folding, burning with glee. i was only 7.
and then i remember my grandfather is hospital, saved from a heart attack, the episode leaving him far weakened than ever before, and with much less mobility. he can still walk, thank god.
i don't know. why can't the younger generation make decisions entirely our own, for we have our families to answer to, and subsequently, our future wives and husbands and families to be. that we must do our best now for a better future tomorrow?
but then again, i am not one to worry about such intrigues. Que Sera Sera
Once again i have failed to blog happy post that makes people laugh, but rather a serious post that is a total counterbalance to my happy side that i prefer to show people.
how ironic. but those who know me, know that i have always been deep.

i don't know. why can't the younger generation make decisions entirely our own, for we have our families to answer to, and subsequently, our future wives and husbands and families to be. that we must do our best now for a better future tomorrow?
but then again, i am not one to worry about such intrigues. Que Sera Sera
Once again i have failed to blog happy post that makes people laugh, but rather a serious post that is a total counterbalance to my happy side that i prefer to show people.
how ironic. but those who know me, know that i have always been deep.

Celebrity Culture
i don't know what i am going to post today.
You see, i could go the serious blogger route, and post about the straits times errant reporting, or about how legislation for overseas paedophiles will just remain that, legislation (because proving beyond the shadow of doubt for sex tourists is quite hard for the prosecution), or how the crazy horse cabaret in Singapore (Clarke Quay) is good for the arts, but i doubt it would be a serious winner. But then again, Singapore Ink is doing a good job of that.
Or i could blog entertainment news, like Kylie getting cancer (God bless ya Kylie), or how LINDA LIOW IS SO CHIO! (S'pore slang for pwetty), or how Vonzell should have stayed in AI 4 instead of Carrie (and Bo shall win it anyway).
Or should i go down the xiaxue or sillycelle route and act dumb, bimbotic (in my case, himbotic), and occassionally flame someone on my blog. Wait i've already done that.
So, there are 3 tiers of bloggers. First tier are the supreme beings of the blogosphere (even i didn't coin that world, some one put in websters please). Like mrbrown, xiaxue (i don't even know where she gets her readers from), Singapore Ink , and even Young Republic
Or even gssq.
Now, with the exception of xiaxue, the remaining powerbloggers tend to post more on media alternatives, giving comments and forum ideas that would never ever in my lifetime be seen on the straits times forum. (unless of course, you are Catherine Lim. Bless her and that article on political liberalisation)
Then there's the 2nd tiers, like miyagi, adri, lawyer wannabe etc etc who are less well known (at least by me) but i do pop by occassionally do look at their views, and because their prose is mucho better than mine. (okay, maybe not the miyagi singlish)
and 3rd tiers are my friends and the thousands of other blogs out there that live a sad existance. Even though they do post on serious and imaginative topics, (like Jesse) and even our class blog!
But then again, 3rd tiers usually post about their mundane lives that no one gives a fuck about. (today i went shopping, and i bought 7 skirts, 6 white tops, 5 pink dresses, 4 bras from victoria's secrets, 3 thongs from triumph, 2 pairs of shoes, and 1 makeup kit from SKII.) [do not ask me why i know so much about feminine products. i am strictly male]
I guess out society today is suffering from a celebrity drawback. like okay, enough about Fann Wong and Christopher ALREADY. they've been together for so fucking long, my mama gave birth to my younger brother. (yo mama)
and whatabout the papparazzi and the chasing of Diana, and all those photos of Kournikova, Sharporova, Abramovich, i-don't-give-a-fuck-ova (notice the russian link), and of course, the numerous celebrity news and gossips on MTV.
enough says the populace. So we elevate civilians to pop culture "celebrity" status with the advent of reality TV! Bring forth the Survivors, the Amazing race couples (Which incidentally, are the same in the recently concluded race which i didn't watch), the Apprentices, the next-top-models, the eyes-for-guys (or gays), and of course, our favourite idols from all over the world (Timbuktoo Idol, anyone?)
And so, Xiaxue is born. So is Taufik and Sly. Problem is, once they become celebrities, they start acting celebrity-like (you know, sunglasses add that extra cool factor, torn jeans, handsigns that say oh i am sooo cool)
Maybe i'm just sore that i'm not a celebrity
joking. So what is it with celebrities?
Do they get LAID more?
Do they EARN more?
or is it just like the dark side of the force, power begets power, and hunger for fame is innate.
I don't know. Maybe it's the universal need for acceptance by society that drives the celebrity culture (Britney anyone?)
of course, i already thought of my oh-so-cool celebrity name. Once i get into the hall of fame (whether by being extremely good, or extremely bad), my name shall officially become a hip-hop sounding one (no more lip jin for me)
I shall be known as el-Jay.
Or lan jiao.
